There’s something special about October in the Pacific Northwest. The days begin to get shorter, the air turns crisp, and suddenly we’re reaching for cozy sweaters, warm drinks, and all the things that make fall feel like fall.

October is a month filled with simple reasons to get out and enjoy our communities—it’s a chance to enjoy the simple things. From taking a drive to see the fall colors to local events and seasonal traditions to pumpkin patches, fall activities, and gathering with family and friends. It’s also a good time to slow down just a little, appreciate the changing season, and make the most of what’s happening right here around us.

It is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage regular screenings, and support the millions of women and families affected by breast cancer. It’s also a reminder to know your body, talk with your healthcare provider about your individual risk, and stay up to date with recommended mammograms and screenings. Whether you’ve been personally affected by breast cancer or know someone who has, this month is an opportunity to show support, share information, and remind the women in our lives that their health matters. A simple conversation, appointment, or encouraging reminder could make a meaningful difference.

The businesses, service providers, organizations and individuals featured in these pages are more than just names on a page. They are our neighbors. They coach our kids, sponsor local teams, employ people in our community, donate to local causes and help make the South Sound the place we are proud to call home.

As we head toward the busy holiday season, I hope you'll remember the businesses right here in our own backyard.
